Introduction: Make the Sign of the Cross and say:
“Bless me, Father, I have sinned. It has been _______ long since my last confession. These are my sins…”
Confession: List the sins you have committed. You don’t need to give all the details, just the facts.
Penance: The priest will give you something to do or pray after your confession to help restore your relationship with God.
Act of Contrition: Pray an Act of Contrition, showing your sorrow for your sins. You can pray it aloud; it doesn’t need to be memorized. A copy is usually provided in the confessional.
Absolution: The priest extends his hands and prays the Prayer of Absolution. Respond with: “Thanks be to God.”
Leave and Do Your Penance: Your sins are forgiven. Complete the penance given by the priest to fully embrace God’s healing grace.
