Before you come to Reconciliation, take a moment to reflect on your sins since your last confession. You may bring a list, but it’s not required. Christ’s forgiveness comes through you, opening your heart in conversion, and the priest, who speaks God's mercy and grants absolution. Whatever you share stays completely private.

We all need the Sacrament of Reconciliation to grow closer to God. Jesus’ death freed us from sin, yet we are called to seek His mercy. This sacrament can be received as often as needed, though the Church encourages at least once a year. Through Reconciliation, our hearts are renewed and opened to God’s peace & love.

• Introduction: Make the Sign of the Cross and say:
  “Bless me, Father, I have sinned. It has been _______ long since my last confession. These are my sins…”

• Confession: List the sins you have committed. You don’t need to give all the details, just the facts.

• Penance: The priest will give you something to do or pray after your confession to help restore your relationship with God.

• Act of Contrition: Pray an Act of Contrition, showing your sorrow for your sins. You can pray it aloud; it doesn’t need to be memorized. A copy is usually provided in the confessional.

• Absolution: The priest extends his hands and prays the Prayer of Absolution. Respond with: “Thanks be to God.”

• Leave and Do Your Penance: Your sins are forgiven. Complete the penance given by the priest to fully embrace God’s healing grace.
