Fr. Matthew is a native of Topeka, Kansas, and was ordained to the priesthood in May 2009. Holy Spirit Parish is the fourth parish in which he has served.
Before entering seminary, Fr. Matthew earned a Master of Music degree in saxophone performance from the University of Kansas. He completed his philosophical studies at Conception Seminary College in Conception, Missouri, and his theological studies at Mundelein Seminary in the Chicago area.
Fr. Matthew has a visual impairment known as cone-rod dystrophy and has been legally blind since the age of 10. Parishioners may notice him using various assistive technologies in his ministry. He appreciates when people identify themselves as they begin a conversation, which helps him recognize and engage with them more easily.
